This week is all about helping out critters great and small. You can attend an orientation to volunteer to bottle-feed orphaned kittens. Later, you can meet local animal-rights activists and write letters in support to jailed activists Tyler Lang and Kevin Olliff, who were arrested for allegedly owning “burglary tools.” And, for the most dangerous animal out there—the “young immortals” who don’t understand why they might want to take advantage of insurance provided under the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”)—a special forum at the University of Utah will talk options for college students.
Cat Crusader Kitten Nursery Volunteer Orientation

Orphaned kitties need your help! But remember, while this volunteer work pays itself off in adorableness, it’s also a serious task. Bottle-feeders are needed around the clock to fill two-hour volunteer shifts at a kitten nursery that’s a partnership between Best Friends Animal Society and Salt Lake County Animal Services. Volunteers are expected to commit to at least one shift a week. This orientation (and another happening Sept. 26) will explain the basics of saving kittens’ lives.

Prisoner Support Letter Writing

Two animal-rights activists driving through Illinois, Tyler Lang and Kevin Oliff, were stopped by police. The men refused to give consent to a search, but police searched anyway and say they discovered box cutters and ski masks. While the men weren’t on private property or caught in the act of doing anything illegal, they were arrested for simply owning “burglary tools.” The two men have been denied e-mail, so activists are meeting to write them letters of support.
