Landmark locale with a classy upscale feel

In 2011, when Bar-X (155 E. 200 South) got new owners and a face-lift, there was a small but vocal group of SLCers who bitched and moaned because the place expanded its menu beyond cold Buds. Oh, yeah, and the new owners removed all the grime. But Bar-X has a long history of stubborn clientele. The spot was spawned by a cattleman who named it after his branding iron. It was a men’s-only union joint till the early ’70s, and they didn’t install a women’s bathroom till 1984. This landmark locale now sports a classy upscale feel, local brews (and Buds), craft cocktails and tunes from Joshua Payne Trio on Sundays and DJ Godina on Mondays. But I’m sure someone out there still misses the grime.
