If you missed the chance to give back during the busy holiday season, it’s not too late to donate to YouthCity’s annual food and clothing drive. And don’t miss a rally to support clean energy in Utah this week, either. Later, check out a free documentary on the nation’s obesity problem and join a panel discussion with local leaders afterward.
YouthCity Donation Drive
Through Jan. 18
The season is still needy for low-income Utahns, and it’s not too late to give to YouthCity’s donation drive. Online donations for the Utah Food Bank can be made at http://citywk.ly/ZY1jCh, with every $1 donated being matched with $8 worth of goods and services. You can also drop off donations of nonperishable food and warm clothing at most city buildings to benefit the Utah Food Bank and Catholic Community Services. Salt Lake City & County Building, 451 S. State, Jan. 11, 2-3:30 p.m., donations accepted through Jan. 18 at most city facilities
Clean Energy Now! Rally
Thursday, Jan. 10
While lobbyists and officials at Gov. Gary Herbert’s Energy Development Summit talk inside about tar sands and nuclear power, you can join protesters
rallying outside to remind Herbert that Utah has abundant potential in clean, renewable resources like wind, air, solar and geothermal energy. Come make some noise for energy that doesn’t melt down, pollute the air or scar our state’s pristine wilderness. Salt Palace Convention Center, 100 S. West Temple, 801-355-5055, Jan. 10, 12:30-1:30 p.m., HEALUtah.org
