Dining | Food Matters: Best Hot Dog... Ever & Feast of the 5 Senses

comment
Johnniebeefs Chicago-style hot dogs are the bomb. But not to be outdone, executive chef Zane Holmquist of The Glitretind at Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley has created what might just be the most decadent hot dog in history. Yes, The Glitretind is high-end dining. And no, there is no foie gras involved in Zane’s tremendous tubesteak. In fact, it’s designed to appeal to kids, although I’d be willing to bet a parent or two have ordered Holmquist’s Utah Dog at the Glitretind: It’s a quarter-pound all-beef hot dog and bun smothered in macaroni and cheese, then topped with dill pickles. According to Holmquist, “The kids are loving it, but we have lots of adults ordering it from room service, too!” By the way, Zane would like you to know that Stein’s is a kid-friendly hotel, with a full 13-item kids’ menu that runs from 11 a.m. to midnight. Quote of the week: The weather here is gorgeous. It’s mild and feels like it’s in the ’80s. The hot dog vendors got confused because of the weather and thought it was spring, so they accidentally changed the hot dog water in their carts. —David Letterman
