Though his big break in television occurred only two years ago on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Brooklyn native Dwayne Perkins is already making a comedy name for himself. He has appeared at the Montreal Just for Laughs festival, been named as one of Rolling Stone’s “Top Five Comedians to Watch,” recorded his own Comedy Central special, released a CD and traveled the world performing stand-up. He’s a huge hit at college campuses as well as clubs in New York City, Boston and Los Angeles.

Perkins has been performing stand-up since 1994 and was even a Star Search contestant in 2003, but he’s only recently begun to get the credit his talent deserves. When he’s not performing, he’s busy auditioning for acting jobs. But while he has appeared in a few commercials, TV shows and independent films, his real talent is in his comedy.

In one of his best bits, Perkins talks about how he doesn’t drink since alcoholism runs in his family—yet, without fail, one of his friends will approach him on a Saturday night and say, “Yo, Dwayne, I know you don’t drink … but you gonna get drunk tonight!” He then goes on to ask if that same lack of logic could transfer to other problems, stating, in the same friend’s voice, “Yo, Dwayne, I know you’re lactose intolerant … but you gonna drink some milk tonight!” Expect a cross between Eddie Murphy and Jerry Seinfeld—intelligent humor that appeals to street-savvy young adults.
