For many dancers wanting to continue the art into adulthood, it’s hard to get a leg up, and, breaking into Hollywood movies and the contemporary scene can seem like a series of endless pirouettes. That’s why, two years ago, nationally renowned TV, film (High School Musical) and stage choreographer Bonnie Story began the Expansion program at Treehouse Fitness in Draper, after branching off from Odyssey Dance Company.

Expansion is a potential launching pad for these dancin’ fools, a pre-professional group for those in their late teens and up to boost their game. There are auditions each year, with those chosen given scholarships. Then, they rehearse, rehearse, rehearse and, ultimately, perform. Strutting their stuff, tonight’s selection consists mainly of contemporary pieces, with funk flares and a dash of hip-hop. “All the pieces are amazing. I audition people all over the world, and I am really impressed with this show,” Story says. They’re joined by several dance companies—Vibe, Center Stage, Noiz, among others—each performing one piece, making a jam-packed, kinetic evening.
