Saturday is a good time to consider your fellow Utahn down on his or her luck and what your community could and should do to ease their burdens. At this year’s Utah Poverty Partnership Annual Poverty Summit, speakers will discuss proposed changes by the Utah Transit Authority and a possible statewide Medicaid expansion. There will also be a forum with Salt Lake County mayor candidates Mark Crockett and Ben McAdams. The event is free and open to the public and includes lunch and snacks. The Great Salt Lake Chili Affair

The Road Home Shelter is welcoming fall with its annual Great Salt Lake Chili Affair. For $42 for individuals or $300 for tables of eight, patrons can sample tasty chili, desserts and other sumptuous offerings from 14 great local chefs. The event also features live entertainment, drawings and photo booths, with ticket proceeds helping The Road Home continue its mission of providing shelter to Salt Lake City’s homeless.
