This weekend, you can learn about the issues affecting Utah’s most vulnerable at the Utah Poverty Summit and also hear how candidates for Salt Lake County mayor will care for the county’s impoverished citizens. Later, check out a free concert for independent and unaffiliated voters and get yourself registered and sample a buffet of candidates looking for your vote in November. Later in the week, chow down on some chili to fundraise for The Road Home shelter.

Annual Poverty Summit
Saturday, Sept. 29

Saturday is a good time to consider your fellow Utahn down on his or her luck and what your community could and should do to ease their burdens. At this year’s Utah Poverty Partnership Annual Poverty Summit, speakers will discuss proposed changes by the Utah Transit Authority and a possible statewide Medicaid expansion. There will also be a forum with Salt Lake County mayor candidates Mark Crockett and Ben McAdams. The event is free and open to the public and includes lunch and snacks. We Are the 51 Percent! Concert
Saturday, Sept. 29

Utah boasts 51 percent of voters registered as independent or unaffiliated—this weekend, enjoy a concert dedicated to your independence. Come hear the free sounds of The Samuel Smith Band and meet candidates for office, and if you’re not already registered to vote, you can do so at the concert. The Great Salt Lake Chili Affair
Wednesday, Oct. 3

The Road Home Shelter is welcoming fall with its annual Great Salt Lake Chili Affair. For $42 for individuals or $300 for tables of eight, patrons can sample tasty chili, desserts and other sumptuous offerings from 14 great local chefs. The event also features live entertainment, drawings and photo booths, with ticket proceeds helping The Road Home continue its mission of providing shelter to Salt Lake City’s homeless.
