Self-deprecation is an important tool in any comedian’s bag of tricks. For example, remember the fat kids who told jokes about their weight to feel accepted and make others laugh? Some of them were actually good enough to make a career out of it. Case in point—funny-man Gabriel Iglesias.
Tonight, Gabriel Iglesias brings his clean, animated comedy style to the Capitol Theatre. Known as the “fluffy” comic in a Hawaiian shirt, the 32-year old comedian often jokes about his weight and has given six levels of fatness; Big, Healthy, Husky, Fluffy, “Damn!” and “Oh, Hell, No!”
Iglesias’ comedy show is a mixture of storytelling, parodies, characters and sound effects that bring all his personal issues to life. The comedy, Iglesias says, doesn’t come from writers but from real-life experience. He also says that he wants to “show people that Latinos are here, but we don’t have to be stereotypical.”
