Greek-born Gina Bachauer was an accomplished pianist who enjoyed a 40-year performing career, including with the Utah Symphony. Yet her greatest legacy to the world of classical music might be the young musician-supporting entities that bear her name.

The Gina Bachauer International Music Association has dedicated itself to providing scholarships and recognition to young pianists. And this month, the 15th Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition (produced by the Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation, a separate entity) takes its place in a four-year-cycle of competitions that also includes young-artists and amateur. From a pool of applicants, 35 competitors age 19-32 will be selected for a two-week series of recitals, with all music chosen by the competitors. Six finalists eventually will be chosen to perform with the Utah Symphony in Abravanel Hall, for more than $75,000 in total cash prizes, performing engagements and recording contracts.

Catch the world’s finest young piano talents all in one place. Their first performances at Abravanel Hall may be only the start.
