For many West Coast burger aficionados I know, California-based Habit Burger Grill is, well, a habit. Folks just can’t seem to do without their fix of The Habit’s made-to-order “charburgers,” priced economically starting at $2.95. Well, now Utahns can get into the Habit Burger habit, too. The first Utah location of The Habit Burger Grill is slated to open to the public Jan. 10, but on Jan. 8 and 9, you can get a sneak peek at the new Habit Burger Grill in Sugar House (2121 S. McClelland St.), and help out local charities at the same time. “When we open a new location, it is our intent to do everything we can to give back to the community where we live,” said Russ Bendel, President and CEO of Habit Restaurants, LLC. “In Salt Lake City, we are thrilled to be working with the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club.” So, on Jan. 8 and 9, 100 percent of all Salt Lake City Habit Burger Grill proceeds will go to the YMCA of Northern Utah, Boys & Girls Club and YWCA of Salt Lake City.
In addition to charburgers, The Habit Burger Grill does grilled sandwiches (including fresh albacore tuna), salads, kids meals, fresh shakes, sundaes and malts made with real ice cream, and sides like sweet-potato fries. Hey, this could become a habit! Visit HabitBurger.com for more information.
A Room with a View
This week, I focused my main column on a couple of appealing Ogden eateries. Well, here’s another that might not yet be on your radar screen. Perched atop the historic Ben Lomond Hotel (2510 Washington Blvd., Ogden, 801-621-1107) is Restaurant 1107. It’s not brand-new, but has quietly been impressing customers since opening in 2012. Erick and John Jackson’s restaurant serves up contemporary American cuisine with a bit of an Italian spin: dishes such as an Italian brochette appetizer, vodka capellini, lemon-caper halibut, chicken Marsala, free-range veal parmesan, bacon-wrapped filet mignon and a scrumptious pear & walnut pasta: angel-hair pasta tossed in a white-wine & olive-oil sauce, with veggies, blue cheese, fresh pears and walnuts. Prices are quite reasonable, and the Restaurant 1107 offers terrific views of downtown Ogden and beyond, along with beer, wine and liquor.
