The Provo Daily Herald’s online polls (HeraldExtra.com) are a reliable entertainment source, since they can be counted on to react to every random hysteria that pops up.
The most recent poll is about foul language—specifically, can anything be done about it? Here are the options:
Mild profanity and vulgarity don’t bother me.
Let the kids talk how they want; who cares?
Crude language signals a person with no class.
“Frickin” is an acceptable alternative to the original word.
It’s impossible to govern language except through social pressure.
All of the above.
Now, I was forbidden to use “the original word” until I was 18. But, as of press time, “leave those kids alone” and “frickin” were trailing far behind.
