LDS Church Overlooks Jesus's Words
When I first heard about the stance of the LDS Church regarding children of same-sex couples not being allowed to be baptized, I accepted it as their freedom to admit the members they choose, who abide by their rules.
But when I read further and saw that those same kids, when they became adults, would have to denounce their parents to gain admission, I was horrified. After reading Scripture, I was reminded of the words of Jesus when he said, "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."
With that in mind, I don't understand how the literal words of Jesus could have been overlooked with this new doctrine. Jesus loved and welcomed children and families; has this changed in the past 2,000 years?

In Exodus, it is stated: "I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fouth generations of those who hate me ..."
Move ahead some 3,000 years to 2015 and to the Mormons on high denying church membership to children of same-sex parents.
Many of these children were adopted; some were adopted after years in foster homes and/or group homes.
In Deuteronomy, Ezekiel and Matthew, God becomes much nicer and sort of denies the wrath he expressed in Exodus.
This latest pronouncement, once again, as demonstrated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' support of Proposition 8, that the church continues to be an organization of bigotry, not one of love and acceptance.
How blessed the children of same-sex parents are to never be subjected to the historic racism, sexism and homophobia of that church. If only all children could so protected!

Corrections: City Weekly's Nov. 5 Best of Utah edition listed an incorrect bagel ingredient in The Bagel Project's blurb ("Best Thing Since Sliced Bread"). Robb Abrams (whose first name is spelled correctly here) let us know the secret to his bagels is actually Old World dough preferment.

Finally, the final few lines of John Saltas' Nov. 5 "Triple Irony" Private Eye column were inadvertently omitted. The final paragraph should have read:
"It's been subsequently reported that a potential sale of [The Salt Lake] Tribune to a local buyer—believed to be Jon Huntsman Sr.—fell through this week. Speculation is that others suitors, one local, may step up to the plate. That's another irony, I believe, and one best left for another day."
