There are 101 ways to get lucky on 25th Street.

No, we’re not talking about what might happen during a downtown Ogden bar crawl. Instead, we’re referring to Lucky Slice’s Bleu Moon pizza, with red sauce, crumbled bacon, mushrooms, onions, mozzarella and blue cheese. Or maybe a custom pizza, with red curry sauce, plus green pepper, onions and cilantro. Or maybe … you get the picture.

The Lucky Slice Pizza, which opened earlier this year, offers a wide selection of specialty pies, both classics—like Buffalo chicken—and personal favorites, like the aforementioned Bleu Moon. There are also 10 handcrafted sauces, so you can build the epic pizza of your dreams—or take a suggestion from Lucky Slice staffers, who are compiling combinations devised by customers and cooks for the in-progress 101 Ways to Get Lucky handbook.

Funeral potatoes provided the inspiration for a pizza created for a recent event by Chef Will Shafer, who co-owns Lucky Slice with two friends, Mike McDonald and Nick VanArsdel: roasted potatoes, a béchamel base, ham and crunchy, deep-fried onions.

Rotating daily specials are offered (one meat, one vegetarian; pepperoni and basic cheese are always available), so you can try an adventurous slice before jumping to up to a 12- or 16-incher. And if you need a little liquid courage before diving in, beer and wine are served here, and Lucky Slice stays open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, complementing the many nearby bars.

The Lucky Slice team has a commitment to building an energetic community in Ogden. They hosted a recent action-sports event featuring live music and a rail jam in celebration of the coming winter season.

“Ogden seems to be on a turn,” McDonald says. “There’s a lot of youth, a lot of energy and excitement. The attitude is changing, and we want to influence that as much as possible.”
