It’s that time of year when the valleys are socked in with 100-degree-plus temperatures, and everyone and their dog start looking for alternative ways to cool off. For performing arts companies, such as Utah Symphony and Opera, that means heading to the fresh air of the mountains and relaxing their routine a bit.
The result is the Deer Valley Music Festival, which is held about town during the summer months in Park City and is aimed at “delivering a high-quality and musically diverse experience in casual settings of unparalleled natural beauty.” An annual favorite of the festival is the appearance by The Muir String Quartet, which this year will perform several chamber pieces including Haydn’s String Quartet No. 3 in G Minor, op. 74 and Dvorák’s String Quartet in C Major, op. 61, as well as Joan Tower’s new piano quartet featuring Utah Symphony’s principal keyboardist Jason Hardink.
