In 1936, it was deadly serious business to a church group that wanted to warn parents about the dangers of cannabis, and it financed an earnest educational film called Tell Your Children.

Exploitation filmmaker Dwayne Esper saw other potential, however, and what happened after he bought the rights has become a part of cult-cinema history.

The 1998 musical version of Reefer Madness by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney has become part of that history, and Dark Horse Company Theatre brings the story to the Park City stage this month. Join in the dark adventures of cleancut Jimmy and Mary, whose pure romance is shattered when Jimmy visits The Reefer Den and takes that first hit that turns him into a crazed sex fiend who winds up a fugitive from the police. Can true love—and President Franklin Roosevelt—save Jimmy from the demon weed? Find out … then remember to tell your children.
