Help Feed the Hungry
Utah’s largest (and most fun) benefit to fight hunger in Utah, Taste of the Wasatch, takes place Sunday, Aug. 4, at Solitude Mountain Resort (12000 E. Big Cottonwood Canyon Road). As in past years, more than 50 of Utah’s premier chefs, bakers and restaurants will gather to cook up a storm for Taste of the Wasatch guests, and dozens of wineries and local brews will also be represented.

“Funding this year is more important than ever as demand for food continues to increase,” says event organizer Karen Zabriskie. “One in five Utah children is food-insecure or at-risk—meaning they don’t know if they will have food to eat or where their next meal is coming from. And right now, hundreds of Utahns are struggling with hunger. These are often hard-working adults and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days.”

New participants in this year’s Taste of the Wasatch include Caterina, Cucina Toscana, Del Mar al Lago, Luna Blanca Taqueria, Vivace and Zest Kitchen & Bar. There will also be live music by The Staff, along with silent and live auctions (which I’ll be hosting). All funds raised will go to nonprofits like Utah Food Bank, Utahns Against Hunger and the Ogden-Weber Community Action Partnership. Tickets (21 and over only) are $90 for general admission and $125 for VIP reserved seating and can be purchased at TasteOfTheWasatch.org.

Urban Indian Center Benefit
The Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake will host its first-ever Wine & Cheese Benefit on Aug. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kiler Grove Winery (53 W. Truman Ave.). Kiler Grove wines will be highlighted, along with gourmet cheeses, light appetizers and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Urban Indian Center. Tickets are $45 per person or $80 per couple and can be purchased in advance at the Urban Indian Center (120 W. 1300 South). For more information, phone 801-486-4877.
