Spring is around the corner, which means it’s time to come out of your apathetic hibernation and look for new opportunities to give back to your community. If you’re a whiz with numbers, volunteer this tax season and help low-income residents file their taxes. On Friday, check out a free film screening and panel discussion about the challenges the wind-energy industry has had in our fossil-fuel-dominated energy market. Later, celebrate International Women’s Day with a fundraiser concert at Dolcetti Gelato.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Through April 15
If you’re passionate about protecting taxpayer resources and knowledgeable about tax code, then help your fellow taxpayers get back all that they can this year by volunteering with the statewide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. After becoming certified, you’ll be able to assist low-income to middle-income Utahns file their taxes. In 2012, local volunteers helped bring more than $24 million in refunds to thousands of families statewide, helping them and the community at the same time.
