The Utah Museum of Natural History has annually presented a lecture series called The Nature of Things aimed at exploring the intricate relationship between humans and the greater natural world. This year’s theme, “Reinventing Energy,” has brought local researchers together with renowned experts to discuss the critical issue of climate change.

Fred Krupp, president of the Environmental Defense Fund, has been brought in as the keynote speaker and is scheduled to discuss new and innovative tactics of producing, consuming and reinvigorating our energy infrastructure—like inventive ways of utilizing the newest in bio and nano technologies. Krupp’s old way of thinking—“sue the bastards”—has changed dramatically over time. Now, he tries to harness the mighty powers of the capitalistic free market by persuading multinational corporations that it’s in everybody’s interest—including their own bottom lines—to make responsible environmental choices.
