Science fiction gets a bad rap. It’s escapist, it’s not serious or it’s just crap, some say. But for others, it’s one of the only genres where difficult and often-ignored subjects like technology’s impact on humankind and other dilemmas can be explored. City Weekly asked Martin Moreno, an operations processor for Wells Fargo, if he thinks sci-fi is more than just escapism:
I think it is able to explore difficult subjects because it can distance itself from the present moment. As for technology, it has a mixed view'sometimes good, sometimes it’s bad. Beyond that, it also explores subjects like computer consciousness and alien life forms that are real possibilities, yet aren’t really talked about much.
