Think Pink
The owners of Meditrina Small Plates & Wine Bar (1394 S. West Temple) will host a Think Pink wine social on Tuesday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m., with 10 percent of the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure foundation. Appropriately, Meditrina will be serving up four different Rosé wines complemented by four unique food pairings. The cost per person is $20 for food and $20 for the wine pairings. Phone 801-485-2055 to RSVP or visit MeditrinaSLC.com. In other Meditrina news, the gals—Amy Britt and Jen Gilroy—have a
second eatery in the works, scheduled to open in early May at 401 E. 900 South. The restaurant, Pig & a Jelly Jar, will specialize in “from scratch” breakfasts and lunches and, taking a page from Thomas Keller’s Sunday meals at Napa’s Ad Hoc, will offer a special three-course Sunday supper.
Community Co-op Gets Second Life
Just weeks after The Community Co-op was forced to close for lack of financial support, it was brought back to life under the aegis of Crowchild, a local micro-equity firm. The Community Co-op uses the buying power of its members to offer high-quality food at prices significantly lower than retail, and is committed to supporting local food producers and growers. The Community Co-op will continue to support the Crossroads Urban Center through its Donation Share program.
Under new management, members and the public will see a wider variety of products including milk, eggs and gluten-free products. And now, member distributions are twice a month and the popular Market Sales are twice a week, making it easier to shop at the indoor farmers market year round. “The co-op is an important local institution, and thousands of people relied on it to get fresh produce and high-quality meats, as well as breads and other locally produced items,” said Glenn Bailey, director of Crossroads Urban Center. “We are very happy that the co-op will be able to continue under the strong leadership that Crowchild brings.” The co-op’s annual membership fee is $5 per person, and anyone can join.
