It’s the one time of the year when both the godless and the god-fearing should be harmonizing in the spirit of service. Don’t miss out on some great opportunities to give back to your community, such as donating used hearing aids to benefit disadvantaged Utah children. You can help make the season brighter for refugee children in Utah by taking part in the International Rescue Committee’s Light One Candle donation drive. Or, look ahead to the new year and volunteer to help man Utah’s first 24-hour LGBT-relief hotline.

Give the Gift of Hearing
Through Dec. 30

My Hearing Centers is organizing a hearing-aid donation drive during the month of December. If you have any gently used hearing aids, you’re encouraged to drop them off at the center, where they will be collected and given to the Utah Department of Health Children’s Hearing & Speech Center to be refurbished and given to local low-income children.  My Hearing Centers, 8941 S. 700 East, 801-618-4703, through Dec. 30, for more information e-mail tvanwagoner@myhearingcenters.com

Light One Candle Holiday Donation Drive
Through Dec. 30

Being home for the holidays can be a
foreign concept for refugee families who’ve had to leave their homes because of war or poverty and have resettled in Utah. That’s why the nonprofit International Rescue Committee is calling upon Utahns to brighten the lives of local refugee families by sponsoring a family or simply donating a few unwrapped toys or hygiene items during the Light One Candle holiday donation drive. International Rescue Committee, 231 E. 400 South, 801-328-1091, through Dec. 31, Rescue.org, for more information e-mail sarah.callicutt@Rescue.org

Pride Empathy Line Training
Beginning Jan. 15

Utah’s first 24-hour LGBT hotline is looking for as many as 50 volunteers to train in January to help operate a crucial lifeline to at-risk LGBT Utahns. By helping staff the Pride Empathy Line, you can gain support training from Valley Mental Health to help offer hope to the hopeless. Training begins Jan. 15, visit PrideEmpathyLine.org for more information
