Tomato Sandwich Party

Saturday Sept. 11 @ Wasatch Community Garden

End-of-summer bliss can be summed up in one succulent bite of a juicy vine-ripened tomato. The Wasatch Community Garden celebrates the gastronomical delightfulness of the best fruit of the season with its annual Tomato Sandwich Party.

Enjoy lemonade and sandwiches made with heirloom tomatoes, basil pesto and fresh bread from Crumb Brothers while listening to live music. A tomato taste-testing table will help green thumbs decide which variety of tomatoes to grow next year in their own gardens. In addition, there will be activities for kids, who can opt to get their face painted, color monarch butterfly pages or fill pouches with pollinator-attracting seeds.

With a stated mission “to empower people of all ages and incomes to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food,” the community garden organizers invite everyone to this event. Community educator Carly Gillespie explains, “It is Wasatch Community Gardens’ way of giving back to our community.”
