I’m writing to express my concern regarding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s been nothing short of a tragedy to see how much life has been greatly affected by this spill as well as the fragile ecosystem being ruined. And now, nearing hurricane season, scientists can only guesstimate how the storms will effect the spill and the what the potential increase in damage will be. There’s been a gaping wound made in our planet, and its scar will remain for future generations.
The good news is that this disaster has served as a wake-up call for so many Americans. My hope is that people realize that we must turn toward an alternative means of energy that is renewable and clean, and that this concern lasts until real change takes place. I couldn’t contain myself yesterday when I heard President Obama finally address the necessity for such an alternative. And I hope that our leaders will see the importance of such a move, as well.
What is the one thing that clean, renewable energy does not provide? Scarcity.
