The same week it is reported that it may get easier to get a drink in Utah [“Hits & Misses,” Oct. 7, City Weekly], I was refused admittance to two different clubs for refusing to have my ID scanned. I am 53 years old and the law states that anyone who looks under 35 must be scanned. Yet, I was told by both clubs that they scan everyone.
Clubs have complained for years about Utah laws restricting their business. Why are these clubs making their own rules that are more restrictive than state law? Are they afraid of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, or do they not care about citizens’ rights? Are they cowards or bullies, or both? How many other clubs are violating our rights?
