Looking for something new and different to add to your record collection? Pick up the new release by Azita, a Chicago singer/pianist whose latest material is quite a change of pace from her previous work in defunct no-wave groups the Scissor Girls and Bride Of No No. That's not to say Azita has mellowed out or sunk into an overly palatable funk. Her ever-evolving style still challenges the connventional "singer/songwriter" template, with songs that showcase her deliberate, passionate vocal delivery (think Martha Wainwright meets PJ Harvey and Kate Bush). With any luck, Azita will soon be as beloved and lauded as her Drag City label/tour mate Bonnie "Prince" Billy. Pick up How Will You? at a local independent record store near you! If it's too obscure to be in the shop's stock, ask the clerk/manager/owner to special order it. It certainly is, special that is.
Here's Azita in another life, performing with the Scissor Girls.
