Since Nobody Bothered ...

I've been waiting for somebody to point out the illiteracy of this by-now familiar Sen. Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan, quote:

"What is the morals of a gay person? You can't answer that, because anything goes."

This has been published over and over, without so much as a "[sic]," even by the Associated Press. Are we so fatigued with Bushisms that we now are willing to permit blatant violations of subject-verb agreement simply to slide, since, "Oh, well—the reader will know what he meant"?

Buttars is not only nasty and paranoid, but practically subliterate--which, apparently, is perfectly acceptable among the ranks of Republicans in the Utah Senate--yet we are expected to trust him to make public policy. Is the Buttars debacle really an issue of free speech, or is more about the general incompetence of a party that allows itself to accomodate such backward views?
