Sigh. Slumdog Millionaire is out on DVD today. It won an Oscar. A lot of people loved it. If you see only one movie this year that won an Oscar and a lot of people loved, this is the one. And I will now stop beating this dead horse. Maybe.
If, however, you're looking for a little more emotional realism, consider Marley & Me, last year's adaptation of John Grogan's beloved memoir about a big dog with a big heart and more than a few neuroses. It's a pleasantly restrained, generally charming reminder about the unrealistic perfection we seek in our lives -- and it doesn't pretend to be more than it is by including blind orphans and gangland assassinations.
