The Jazz came close. Twice. (stupid Michael Jordan)
Utes men’s basketball won an NCAA title in 1944. (in a pool of 8 teams) This year's Utes football team got screwed and should have been dubbed “National Champion.” But as long as we are “voting” on titles, they shouldn’t really mean anything, should they? Urban?
Sort of like my “Super Blogger Champion of the Universe” trophy.
Apparently, some team in Provo also won a “voted on” title in 1984, but I didn’t see it, so it didn’t happen.
Tomorrow night St. Ambrose Tigers & St.Vincent Vikings will throw down for the CIT championship, but most of you will probably miss that as well.
What’s my point? Luckily for me I can take my sweet ass time getting to it, if I get to it at all. It’s a blog, it’s not “literature.”
My point is Salt Lake has a national champion. This year.
The NJCAA Men’s Basketball National Champion is the Salt Lake Bruins.
Yes indeed, Salt Lake Community College
Led by the likes of DJ Wright, Ricky Shoff, Logan Magnusson and Nate Bendall. While there may not be a Blake Griffin or a Tyler Hansbrough in the bunch, they do have a team of scrappers that won Utah’s first ever Junior College men’s basketball title. Not only did they beat the 3 time national champion Midland Texas Chaparrals, they went on a 22-1 point spree to do it in an amazing comeback.
Congrats to the Bruins and coach Norm Parrish.
