I know we are not even halfway through the year, but I think we have a winner for the biggest non-story of 2009 already.  No, not the economy, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Somalia pirates, bank meltdowns, foreclosures, swine/bird/emu/Labrador retriever/etc. flu.

It's Miss California.  Not since Vanessa Williams was relieved of her crown in the last century has a beauty pageant contestant gotten this much press.  Will she or won't she have to relinquish her title had the entire country on edge until the Donald held his press conference yesterday proclaiming Ms. Prejean would not only keep her crown but also get to keep the fake boobs that he bought her for the competition.  

If this whole story wasn't a comedy sketch from the get go, Trump and Prejean cemented it in the "Hall of Stupid Fame" with her teary speech about how her grandfather fought in Patton's army in the Battle of the Bulge for her right to free speech at an "I'm almost naked" contest.  To bolster her comments, Trump tried to prop her up by saying that she is in the same category as President Barack Obama on the issue of gay marriage.  Boy, if that doesn't put her in a league of her own, nothing will.

The facts missing from most of the blathering by the right-wing radio echo chamber is that she broke the rules entering the contest in the first place by lying on her application that she did not engage in nude photography.  That didn't matter to the Rushes and Hannitys, because the question that was asked involved gay marriage, and she had every right to answer it the way she did.  Who cares?  But to use the words of these gasbags, it's the "liberal" media who savaged her for being anti-gay.

The question that really needs to be asked is, who won the contest?  I smell a reality show.  Trump's Apprentice Bimbo coming to Fox soon...........
