Screw the Lakers. | Buzz Blog
We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you.

Screw the Lakers.

Wait, I know what you are thinking. Yes I can’t stand Kobe & Phil, but that’s not why I say “screw the Lakers.”

Yes they just won the NBA Championship.

By the way, your fans set police cars on fire and looted local stores like a bunch of idiotic uneducated thugs. Nothing new, it has happened on at least a half a dozen occasions in LA, and some other NBA Championship cities.

But that’s ok, because on Wednesday the Lakers AND the city of Los Angeles are going to drop ONE MILLION DOLLARS EACH on a parade for Kobe & Phil.

I would say that again slowly, but it’s just easier for you to read it again.

NEWS FLASH LA, YOU ARE HEMMORRHAGING MONEY! California is bankrupt, and Los Angeles is the top city on the list. In three years, city workers pension funds will be gone. Kaput. Tapped out. ZERO BALANCE.

LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is screaming about the proposed budget cuts because they are for public safety (and NBA riots) and are necessary. Well, here’s an idea you imbecile… DON’T SPEND A MILLION DOLLARS ON A PARADE!  Forget that Los Angeles does not have $1 million dollars to spend, let’s just go with this idea...

The Lakers have an operating profit of $47.9 million (on $191 million in revenues). Let them pay for the parade. Better yet, give me the money and I will throw a parade for about $200,000, and give the rest back to the Laker fans that you made $47 million dollars from!
