Our government has been pounding, (pun), away at us for years that we Americans are fat, dumb and lazy. We hear a story on the local and national news at least once a week how obese we are and how that is causing the skyrocketing health care costs and shortening our lives. This seems to be a contradiction of sorts. If we are shortening our lives wouldn't it also lessen our need for health care as we are croaking earlier? This also should be taking some of the burden off Social Security if we eat our selves to death before we can collect. I know, your head is about to explode.....but wait.
Health experts in Japan are reporting the findings of a new study that shows being very skinny is even more dangerous than being chubby. We, as a society, have been obsessed with weight for as long as I can remember and seem to pay more attention to the fluctuations of Oprah's weight more than that of the stock market. We spend billions and billions of dollars every year on potions, lotions, pills, machines, books, clubs, gyms and more to shake those LB's that we claim to be baby fat. Now that I have deprived myself of pizza for almost 3 days, doing my part to loose that last pound, along come the Japanese suggesting that not grabbing that last piece of pizza is actually harming my health.
I was feeling pretty good until I dug further into the study and apparently the Japanese have a different idea of what constitutes chubby than Americans do. Come to find out we are still fat, dumb and lazy. Well at least I am not alone!
