Whether it was a result of the Utah Arts Festival’s economic "streamlining" or not, this year’s festival seemed more about people instead of artistic commerce. Oh, there were the usual booths with a plethora of different styles of art for purchase, but this year’s performing arts and demonstrations stood out as something special. The steamroller printmaking demonstration in particular was fun for spectators of all ages and participants ranging to the single digits with parental assistance to cut designs into the wooden boards. And the poetry slam provided some intensely moving competition. All the arts were celebrated and enjoyed, and the current festival staff is more and more keeping with their mission from which they seemed to have strayed a few years ago, when they, and we, were wandering around at the State Fairgrounds.
