Get somber... in Provo!

Looking for something to do this Friday? If you happen to be in Utah County, check out Somber Party at Velour Music Gallery in Provo this Friday.---

Somber Party, a band whose music is some sort of hybrid between electronic, folk, and indie, stands out a little from the Provo crowd in a number of ways. For one, they utilize a wide array of musical instruments, including the accordion, viola, violin, Rhodes keyboard, upright bass, and even a glockenspiel. Two, Somber Party fans sit down on the floor during shows, giving what they feel is proper reverence to the band. But also, their music is strikingly sincere in it's form and message. The music is sad, but also very, pardon the buzzword, “real.” Frontman Nathan Robbins has attributed this to the band's focus of inclusion rather than using the music to set themselves apart. By so doing, he says they are able to make music that connects people together.
