We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you.

Here Come the Utes

Now we know why Moroni has the horn! ---

The team with the longest winning streak in the nation takes to the field tonight, as the Utes open the season against in-state rival Utah State Aggies @ 7pm, Rice-Eccles Stadium. Or, as my boy Andy put it… “It hardly seems fair that Utah State has to open the season on the road against the reigning national champion.” Oh well.

All that really means is that college football is back, and for the millions of fans like me, who bitch about the joke that is college football’s “computer championship” there is still a full season of Thursday night fall games and Saturday mornings of football wonderment.

If you won’t be among the rabid at Rice-Eccles, you can catch the game on the Mountain. ESPN will also carry South Carolina vs N.C. State @ 5pm, and Oregon @ Boise St. @ 8:15.

Thanks to my girl Yo for the Ute flag pic.
