Put simply: Modern Family is the closest you're going to get to having Arrested Development back on TV, and Courteney Cox's Cougar Town is waaay better than you think it'd be. And they're both debuting on ABC tonight, so I'd suggest you TiVo Glee. Catch the rhyme scheme? ---

Modern Family follows three suburban families, semi-doc-style, the oddest/funniest being Ed O'Neill (Al Bundy!) and Sophia Vergara, who's much younger and much Latina-er. Cougar Town is about a 40-something woman (Cox) getting back into the dating game and staring down double-standards--even if you still look as hot as Courteney Cox. It's also the dirtiest new series of the season, so it's got that going for it. Both are worth checking out before America says "I don't get it" and ABC opts for more dancing shows.
