One of my very favorite restaurant industry people is Julie Wilson, Deer Valley Resort's Director of Food and Beverage. Apparently, I'm not alone. --- Last night, at the Utah Restaurant Association (URA) awards banquet, Julie was honored with the URA's Golden Spoon Restaurateur of the Year award.
"I am completely surprised and profoundly honored to have received this award," Julie said. "However, it is imperative that I accept this award for all of the food and beverage staff at Deer Valley. It's a wonderfully talented group of people, many of whom have also been working at the Resort for decades." Julie Wilson has been employed by Deer Valley since the Resort opened in 1981.
Unlike so many restaurateurs and managers, it's quite common to see Julie pitching in on busy ski days, bussing tables at Deer Valley's restaurants, folding napkins, helping other staff members do their jobs, and, generally, being a model team player. I, for one, was not in the least surprised to hear she'd won the URA's Golden Spoon Restaurateur of the Year. To my way of thinking, she's the restaurateur of the decade!
