Six Locals's mission is to survey a random-sampling of downtown's inhabitants on an issue of the day.  Extract what you will from this petri dish.

Happy birthday KRCL!  Last night, our local, listener-supported radio station put on its birthday best, at The Rail, to celebrate its 3oth.  Daily in Salt Lake City, KRCL serves up diversity, in music and in programs, emphasizing community.  So, I posed this question:

What does independent, community radio mean to you?---

"I think it's important to have.  I don't listen to it though.  I'm glad people are willing to support it.  Just like a lot of independent media and businesses, if I hadn't come across what they are saying, I wouldn't be aware of it."
-Mike

"It helps me feel closer to the community."
-Etsuko

"Do we have an independent, community radio station?"
-Katie

"Because they play music that rocks and they talk about issues that are more pertinent to us, as locals.  Plus, I really like the morning DJ (City Weekly's Music Editor Jamie Gadette)."
-Alexis

"I appreciate KRCL because they are willing to broadcast something new.  Even though recently I have been hearing repeats.  It certainly is not what you'll find on commercial radio stations."
-Everett

"It means a variety of opinions, openness to diversity and exchange.  I love RadioActive for that."
-Simon
