We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on PressBackers.com, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you. DONATE

You've never watched it, but now's your chance to catch up with The CW's new Vampire Diaries: It's smarter than Twilight, cheaper than True Blood, and all 10 episodes produced thus far are running in a five-night marathon, beginning tonight. Courtesy to the viewers, or desperate lack of holiday rerun material? The CW ain't talkin.' ---

The Vampire Diaries has young, sexy vampires (and various other supernatural creatures--all sexy, of course), but the writing and acting won't make anyone over the age/IQ of 14 want to drive a stake through their frontal lobe. The story's not as complex as True Blood (Vampire brothers--one repentant and earnest, the other bad and snarky--battle for the love of a mortal girl. There, we're done), but the dark tone and body count are more adult than Twilight/New Moon.

The ultimate test? I can make it through a whole episode The Vampire Diaries without laughing fits or blood seeping from my brain. Twilight, not so much.

New episodes return in January; here's the Vampire Diaries extended trailer:
