Former NYC chef Ryan Lowder and talented wife, Coleen (a Four Seasons and Grand Central Oyster Bar alum) are busy conjuring the menu for their new Salt Lake restaurant, slated to open early in 2010 in the now-vacant space adjoining the Broadway Cinemas on 300 South near State.--- Lowder grew up in Salt Lake, skiing, climbing and cycling, but found his passion for food in Portland, Oregon (natch). Since then he’s racked up impressive stars as Chef de Parti at Jean Georges in NYC, a line cook at Casa Mono, Mario Batali’s Manhattan Spanish tapas lounge, and at the very sexy Mercat, where, as executive chef, he turned out impressive Catalan-inspired tapas on Bond Street.
Lesley Christoph, Lowder’s local PR rep says the new restaurant (name TBD) will offer “a casual environment with simple, yet serious food and wines…very much in the spirit of Jean-George, but with a strong Spanish and Italian thread running through it.” Lowder plans to serve “well-curated” (as in specially selected, local, farm-fresh) ingredients, make his own bread and butter (!mmm) and some house-cured meats. Says he’ll offer small and large plates and keep prices on the modest side. Stay tuned for more delectable deets in January.
