Sticky Issues

Oil spills won’t be the only sticky issues the Salt Lake City Council will address today. But it will be at the top of the agenda of a very packed day and night of meetings.---

Starting at the top of the afternoon work session (2:00 p.m.) the council will be hearing an emergency briefing on the Red Butte oil spill, and plans for where the city will take the clean up process next. The discussions will go straight from glop to garbage as they then consider plans for the Salt Lake Valley Landfill.

The regular 7:00 p.m. meeting will start off by accepting public comment on the contentious Yalecrest National Historic District and Westmoreland subdivision. The council will then consider possibly adopting the city’s behemoth budget. After that, the public will be shot gunned with a wide array of possible ordinance changes to consider, covering everything from freight stickers to sidewalk art, to water and sewer rates.

Come for the oil spill updates and stay for the real sticky municipal issues. Tonight, at the Salt Lake City & County Building 451 S. State. Work session starts at 2:00 p.m until roughly 5 p.m. Regular meeting at 7 p.m. Questions? Call 801-535-7600
