Lounge Act Monday: Pick your musical poison

What kind of music fan are you? I'm betting there's something to get you out of the house tonight.---

Rockers
Usana Amphitheater has a "Halloween Hootenanny" double-bill featuring recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee Alice Cooper and his gore-obsessed god son Rob Zombie. This will be the loudest, silliest and bloodiest show of the night, and that's why I'm going. Check back Tuesday for a review of the gig.

Hip-Hoppers
Local rhyme animal Mark Dago of The Numbs continues the week-long celebration of his SelfHighFive CD release with a show at Velour in Provo. If you're in Utah County Monday night, this is the place to be.

Grungesters
The mighty Melvins headline a show at In the Venue that will take you back to the late-'80s, when ugly dudes playing abrasive music had yet to take over the cover of GQ.

Hipsters
The young, cool crowd has a decision to make. At The Woodshed, you can hear punky popster Ty Segall doing his thing, but at the same time, El Ten Eleven, DOSH and Baths are playing at The Urban Lounge. I'd go with Segall, but that's just me.

Music Snobs
The legendary guitar man Richard Thompson is headlining a sold-out show at The State Room. You might be able to snag tix from the Internet or on the street outside the venue, but I wouldn't bet on it. A guy like Thompson doesn't drop into SLC every day.
