We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

Local Releases: Aura Surreal, Allred

Two local releases come out over the weekend, which you might want to check out because unless some digging this week shows otherwise, this may be the last of the October releases. --- First up over at Club Vegas tonight will be the release show for Aura Surreal. A thrash metal group out of St. George who probably realized what a scam it is paying a fee just to play at a certain venue, so they came up north. The group has been together for a few years now, which is about all I can tell you as they don't play in town often enough for a full description. But the music they put on Sanity Awakes is badass enough to show that you can be popular down south without having to whore yourselves over in Vegas every weekend. Playing along side them will be Stillborn, Reveeler and Marrow Hill. Just $7 starting at 8PM.

Meanwhile down in Provo you can check out the release show for Allred. We haven't heard much from these guys in a couple years, which I'm sure is confusing as they have so many albums but let me clarify. We haven't heard much "original material" from these guys in a couple years. They have three albums and some singles around that are nothing but covers. In fact I thought they had personally given up and were content to doing so. And as per Utah music, that's when a band will surprise you with something different. They're back with an all-original full-length album titled All We Are. An album so sugary light-rock that I'm surprised its not getting more radio play, plus strangely fitting into the fall season all around in composition and theme. Its worth a listen at least. You can catch them at Velour playign two shows! First an acoustic show at 7PM for just $5, then the full show starting at 8:30PM with j. wride and Goodbye Nova for $10.

For your enjoyment, since this may be the last releases for the month, here are a couple videos from the bands above.

Head out, love music, buy local!
