We're barely functioning in the Lounge on Friday morning, thanks to a rough combo of Social Distortion and Maker's Mark, but that doesn't mean we're not looking for more hijinks. Check out some of the best SLC has to offer this weekend.---
Friday night, In Living Color vet Tommy Davidson will be doing standup at the West Valley City Wiseguys, part of a serious booking hot streak for Utah's best (and pretty much only) outlet for live standup comedy. And The Urban Lounge is hosting the battling boys of Menomena. The members of the band might not be able to stomach being in the studio together when they record, but they sure recorded a killer album together. Check out our profile of the band right here.
Friday night is also the SLC Gallery Stroll, and you can find killer new shows at art venues across town. I'm particularly intrigued by Blonde Grizzly's monster-themed show myself. Maybe there will be something of The Count! (pictured).
If art is your thing, you'll want to seriously consider the Art Meets Fashion event at Salt Lake Art Center Saturday night. It's a combo of music, fashion, art, food and drink that should be a complete blast, and all proceeds go to benefit the Salt Lake Art Center and the Human Rights campaign.
I would totally be hitting the Art Meets Fashion gig if it weren't for Chrissie Hynde being in town. Well, in Park City, to play with her new project, JP, Chrissie & the Fairground Boys. Where Chrissie goes, I follow--simple as that. Check out my interview with JP and Chrissie right here, then consider hitting the show at the Eccles Center.
A couple of other options for Saturday: the Salt City Derby Girls championship bout is on at the Salt Palace, and the Yellowjackets open the SLCJazz at the Sheraton concert series at the downtown Sheraton.
