One plus of the film festival season is that it adds to the entertainment options early in the week. And helps us forget that the Legislature opens for business Monday.---
You can get on board with the X Dance extreme-sports film fest without dealing with a trip to Park City; it's screening its films at The Depot, and it's open to the public.
The Salt Lake Art Center is also offering a bit of the festival experience. Not only is it home to several New Frontier films and art installations; Monday night it's hosting a chat and book-signing with Lynn Hershman Leeson, whose documentary about the American feminist art movement, !Women, Art, Revolution, is playing the festival this year. The discussion begins at 6:30 p.m.
Speaking of the Legislature, there's a rally Monday at the State Capitol in support of immigration rights at 4:30 p.m., if you want to join the debate on Utah's version of the Arizona anti-immigration bill.
If you do decide to head up the hill to Park City, the brilliant Robert Randolph & The Family Band (pictured) are headlining the gig of the night at the Star Bar.
