Utah's Ongoing Need for Damage Control

Is it any wonder why Utah needs to infuse its tourism department with millions each year to overcome its oddball/gruesome image? --- Today, for bad word association when it comes to Utah, you can thank Rep. Curtis Oda, R-Clearfield, (whom The Colbert Report eloquently skewered in the video below) for his bill proposing to allow residents to go postal on the state feral cat population (there has to be an outlet for using our proposed state gun, after all. And yes, The New York Times ate that right up, too).

Oh, and then there's today's misplaced but now found vial of deadly nerve agent at Dugway Proving Ground. It's always nice for the nation to be reminded of the 6,000 dead sheep found near the facility in 1968.

And tomorrow, on the 25th anniversary of Challenger space shuttle disaster, Utahns will again swallow hard at the remembrance of the 1986 failure of the shuttle's O-ring which was developed by the Utah-headquartered company Morton Thiokol (now known as ATK Launch Systems Group). The failure caused the explosion and destruction of the Challenger during the launch, killing all seven astronauts aboard.

But on a brighter note, Utah resorts do offer some mighty fine skiing.
