If you need to see Nicolas Cage cash a paycheck while battling supernatural evil this weekend, maybe you can pass on Drive Angry and catch his previous variation on the theme. ---
It's time for the bargain theater debut of Season of the Witch, which was 2011's first wide release, and, per City Weekly's review, may very well hold the title of its lamest through the year. Cage plays a medieval knight escorting an accused witch to trial, but apparently Monty Python managed a less silly version of knights and witches.
Perhaps even more disappointing, since it could have been significantly better, is The Dilemma. Vince Vaughn stars as a guy with commitment issues who, on the eve of his own engagement, spots the wife of his best friend and business partner (Kevin James) with another guy. All the potential for something really insightful and darkly comic about the little lies we all tell to grease the wheels of life is muted by director Ron Howard's determination to make it a non-threatening bro-mantic comedy. When Channing Tatum is the edgiest thing in your comedy, something went off the rails.
