The Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival is taking its show on the road. And this Macbeth won't cost you anything. ---

Utah Shakespeare is taking a "Shakespeare in the Schools" touring production of Macbeth (cast members Kelly Marie Hennessey and Aaron Gaines are pictured) to venues around the state over the next two weeks. It's part of a larger four-month educational program scheduled to bring "the Scottish play" to more than 30,000 spectators in schools, community centers and prisons across four Western states. The open-to-the-public portion of the tour begins in Utah tomorrow and Thursday (March 30 & 31) at Salt Lake Community College's Grand Theatre, 11 a.m. both days, free of charge. Other free performance locations and dates include Mount Ogden Junior High (April 1, 7:30 p.m.) and Olympus Junior High (April 11, 7 p.m.).

Director Christopher Clark describes this interpretation as a "garden shed production," with common household tools and objects standing in for key props from the play. The minimalist staging is a way to convey that elaborate sets and costumes are not what Shakespeare is all about; the play is the thing. Oh, wait a minute, that's a different play ...
