Lounge Act Thursday: Instrumental rock invades SLC!

Get the weekend started now, with a night full of instrumental and ornate rock and roll.--- 

Thursday at Kilby Court, the incredibly flexible sonic experimentalists El Ten Eleven (pictured) are headlining, and that is one group you need to see to believe. Two men, a lot of foot pedals, a drum set and double-necked bass never sounded so impressive. And over at The Urban Lounge, another impressive instrumental rock crew is headlining; Georgia's Maserati is touring in support of its latest opus, Pyramid of the Sun.

Too often painted with that nu-metal brush, Deftones are a thinking person's hard-rock band, and their live shows are pretty damn good, based on the couple I've seen through the years. The band is touring in support of last year's Diamond Eyes album. Thursday night, you can catch Deftones at In the Venue, along with Dillinger Escape Plan and Funeral Party.
