Utah resident Kelly Richardson's The Battle of Shiloh was inspired by the bloody battle in April 1862 between Union and Confederate forces in Tennessee. World-premiered at New York's legendary Carnegie Hall in April, the work will receive its local premiere on Wednesday, June 29, at a free performance by the American West Symphony at the Sandy Amphitheatre (1245 E. 9400 South) at 8 p.m. In addition to Shiloh, the program is scheduled to include patriotic tunes befitting the upcoming Fourth of July, movie music including themes from Pirates of the Caribbean and James Bond, and a tribute to Henry Mancini.
