The Legislature’s offseason has got a full lineup of interesting committee meetings this week plus a special session.---

Tuesday, July 19 Executive Appropriations, 1 p.m.

The bean counters of the appropriations committee will be going over some important numbers today worth looking into. The agenda includes a report on the state’s debt a look t the state’s Cigarette Tax Restricted Account as well as a report on the implementation of a bill by Sen. Wayne Niederhauser, R-Sandy, from last session designed to track the fiscal performance of new agencies created by the Legislature.

Wednesday, July 20

Business and Labor Committee, 8 a.m.

The business committee will be hearing a report on a state liquor packaging agency that lost $300,000 in its one year of operation. The committee will also hear other liquor business including a look at renewal fees for restaurants that serve liquor.

Government Operations and Political Subdivisions, 8 a.m.

If the state’s booze business isn’t your cup of tea you can check out government operations where committee members will discuss upgrading voting equipment and the validity of e-signatures for petitions.

Special Session, 2 p.m.

The Legislature will go into special session today to make minor changes to a number of bills, including a liquor bill and a bill relating to an effort to relocate the Draper prison. For some good chest-thumping the session will also pass a resolution urging a Constitutional amendment requiring Congress to balance the budget and restrict tax increases.

Redistricting Committee, 7 p.m.

The Legislature’s Redistricting Committee will be holding its last Salt Lake County meeting tonight in Rose Park. Come give your thoughts on plans to redraw the political maps that will divide or unite your community for the next decade. The meeting will also have a special presentation on how the school board will be affected by the process.
